History IS repeating in the Levant today

In the early hours of Thursday morning the U.S.S. Liberty, an American signals reconnaissance ship armed only with four, .50 cal. machine gun nests was under sail twelve miles north of the Mediterranean coast of Palestine and the Sinai. She was an intelligence ship of the U.S. 6^th Fleet ordered to cruise the coast and record Israeli & Egyptian radio chatter as the Six Day war raged in the Levant.

Shortly before 0900 Hrs local time, two delta-wing, single engine jet aircraft orbited the U.S.S. Liberty at an elevation of approximately 5000 Ft. and a distance of two miles. Liberty notified the 6^th Fleet of this reconnaissance but could not identify the aircraft. On board the Liberty, news of Israel's lightening strikes on Arab forward air bases and subsequent mastery of the skies only three days before led the crew to believe that the aircraft they were monitoring could only be Israeli. Considering that the Liberty's stern displayed its name in bold lettering and that it was flying a large, Stars and Stripes, the crew was not concerned.

Then at 1056 Hrs a French-built Noratlas NORD 2501 piloted by an Israeli crew flew across the stern of the Liberty at a distance of three to five miles and made at least one orbit of the ship at that distance. A the time the Liberty crew reported a lack of marking on the aircraft. Not until some time after the conflict ended were the details of that aircraft and its crew made known.

This unidentified aircraft made the same flight around the Liberty every thirty minutes until it disappeared just before 1400 Hrs and was replaced by a single unmarked jet aircraft similar, if not identical to the craft seen at 0900 Hrs, which flew parallel to the Liberty at 7000 Ft elevation and about five miles distance. As command of the Liberty was observing this craft, a second aircraft of identical construction swooped in on the port side and launched torpedoes at the ship which hit amidships, two levels below the bridge.

For the next five or six minutes the aircraft launched a rocket, strafing and incendiary (napalm) attacks on the Liberty, circling and returning at about 60-second intervals. In that time the Liberty antenna masts were destroyed and communications with command in the Mediterranean and on shore were temporarily lost. At about 1424 Hrs, ships command spotted three high-speed boats approaching in a V-formation from about fifteen miles out into Mediterranean and what was left of the Liberty's machine gun posts were ordered to take the approaching fast boats under fire. By this time a temporary antenna had been rigged and communication resumed with the 6^th Fleet sitting in the Mediterranean some three to four hundred miles north of the Liberty.

Other eyewitnesses recount that the fast boats launched several torpedoes at the Liberty causing a 40 x 40 foot wide hole in her hull, while machine-gunning firefighters and stretcher-bearers attempting to save their ship and crew. More than 3,000 machine-gun bullet holes were later counted on the Liberty’s hull.

After the attack was thought to have ended, three life rafts were lowered into the water to rescue the most seriously wounded. The Israeli torpedo boats returned and machine-gunned these life rafts at close range. This was followed by the approach of two large Israeli Army assault helicopters filled with armed commandos carrying what appeared to be explosive satchels (they departed after hovering over the ship for several minutes, making no attempt to communicate).

It was not until 1750 Hrs, more than two hours after the attacking boats and aircraft had abandoned the Liberty and she had signalled that they were still afloat that 6Th Fleet sent help to the Liberty.

34 dead and 171 injured. Israel took full responsibility for the attack. Said they thought it was an Egyptian ship. They gave approximately thirteen million dollars to the U.S. in compensation, hoping to cover the ship’s damage as well as restitution for the killed and injured sailors. All of the Liberty survivors (except the 'special Arabic linguists' on board) called bullshit.

Although the survivors were awarded for bravery they were told by U.S. command never to discuss the incident. Of course nobody takes kindly to being pissed on but told it's only rain, so many of the crew began to tell their stories. Crew member Larry Weaver reported interacting with an Israeli Air Force co-pilot as he flew just meters above their mast;

“I was actually able to wave to the co-pilot. He waved back and actually smiled at me – I could see him that well. There’s no question about it. They had seen the ship’s markings and the American flag. They could damn near see my rank. The underway flag was definitely flying, especially when you’re that close to a war zone.”

Last year's anniversary of the attack was held at Arlington National Cemetery, just as it has for many of the past fifty six years. At this gathering of about fifty men and women, Mr. Larry L. Bowen, President of the USS Liberty Veterans Association addressed the small crowd, their numbers dwindling as age and injury takes its toll;

"For 55 years, we've tried to honor the crew, with little to no support from our government, just like the lack of support we received when we were under attack...

Our government has tried to cover the entire attack up as a mere accident. Nothing could be further from the truth."

American military new outlet 'Military.com' was at that anniversary and their coverage of the story and collection of memories offers a window into the lives of those sailors who still to this day reject the official reports issued by Israel and the United States on the attack. Joe Meadors, a Liberty survivor interviewed by Military.com was a snot-nosed twenty something at the time of the attack. Now, in his 70s, he says he remembers the attack quite clearly.

"I was up on the signal bridges," he said. "Watching the first attacking aircraft and their wings light up with machine guns, side by side. I'll never forget."

Joe remembers the reconnaissance flights earlier in the morning and says that a "spy" on board the Liberty told him "not to worry about it," and that the Israelis were reporting that they had identified the ship as American. Those spies were Hebrew translators taken aboard the Liberty but they were officially known as 'special Arabic translators' in the hope that other nations would not think the U.S. and Israel were working together.

Throughout the ceremony, between the speakers and murmurs within the crowd, the discontent with the alleged cover-up and lack of recognition by the U.S. government was palpable.

"Parents deserve to know the truth, Americans deserve to know the truth about what happened," said Meadors. "We're fed up with it."

Why did the Israeli's attack the Liberty? As noted by the U.S. government, Israel had all but won the fight against their Arab neighbours, with only Egypt offering any final resistance. Was the attack by unmarked aircaft an attempt to get the U.S. more involved in helping Israel better control the situation in the Levant and Sinai? A 'false flag'?

Or was it that Israel feared the U.S. had intercepted and translated Israeli details on the mass killing of Egyptian prisoners of war in the northern Sinai city of el-Arish?

Investigative journalist James Bamford paints an ugly picture of events in the Sinai; events which, if found out by Israels 'friends' might remove military and moral support. Bamford writes that, “As the Liberty sat within eyeshot of El Arish, eavesdropping on surrounding communications, Israeli soldiers turned the town into a slaughterhouse, systematically butchering their prisoners.

An eyewitness recounted how in the shadow of the El Arish mosque, they lined up about 60 unarmed Egyptian prisoners, hands tied behind their backs, and then opened fire with machine guns until the pale desert sand turned red. “

Now it is 2023 and we are right back to conditions which existed in the Levant at the end of May, 1967; Israel, with substantial financial, military and propaganda support is attempting to take more Palestinian, Syrian and Lebanese territory through military means, while the Arab Muslim nations are lining up, ready to destroy the Israelis. And just like 1967 the Israelis are slaughtering non-combatants and threatening to use nuclear weapons if they feel threatened.

There are many reasons why Great Britain, the U.S., Canada and other western nations, nations supposedly founded on Christian values, have been helping the Hebrews slaughter Muslims, Christians and other non-Jews throughout recent history – and it's not just about selling arms. Although I may expand on those reasons in a subsequent post, there remains the fact that Israel and her supporters have shown throughout history that they will do anything to get their way, even if it means killing those who provide succour.

For the time being, please think carefully about who it is you are calling 'friends' and consider that these friends ‘need’ to start an apocalyptic conflict to satisfy their religious beliefs in the ‘end times.’ Evangelical Christians, like Florida Governor Ron DeSantis who support the Israeli/Zionist ideals need to smarten up because your dollars and propaganda are a big reason why we find ourselves at the brink of nuclear war today.
